Groningen is a city in North Holland, known primarily as an important student center, with the prestigious Rijksuniversiteit University operating since the 17th century. The city has preserved a lot of historic buildings from the Middle Ages and the 17th and 18th centuries with a picturesque market square and the church of St. Martin.

Groningen was founded in Roman times and was one of many military camps in the northern part of the Empire. After the fall of Rome, it quickly recovered and was already an important trade center in the 10th century. The golden age of the city was in the late Middle Ages and early Renaissance. Then the church of St. Martin, whose tower with a height of 127 m was then the tallest building in Europe. Currently, from its peak you can admire the panorama of the city.
