Drents Museum collects and displays objects related to the history and art of the province of Denthe. The facility was founded in 1854, and its collection was based on an archaeological collection. The gradually expanded collection became one of the most valuable Dutch presentations of prehistoric testimonies. Among them is the famous Yde Girl - swamp mummy, i.e. a mummified body of a 16-year-old girl who was victim of a ritual murder between 54 BC and 128 AD found in 1897
The Drents Museum painting collection covers the period from the end of the 19th century to the interwar period. It includes works by Jan Toorop, Isaac Israels, Georg Breitner and early compositions of the famous abstract Piet Mondrian.
Currently, the museum has collections of about 40 thousand. exhibits - collections of paintings, sculptures, posters, advertising prints, illustrated books, wallpapers, furniture, glass and ceramics.
