Fryslân Natural History Museum
Local name: Natuurmuseum Fryslân
The Fryslan Nature Museum is a place where you can get to know the flora and fauna of the Friesland region. It is the most important natural museum in North Holland and has a huge collection of about 235,000 objects. Some of them are presented as part of the permanent exhibition on four floors of the museum.
The Frisian Nature Museum has a significant collection of birds and bird eggs, insects, beetles and butterflies, as well as mammals. One of the greatest curiosities of the museum is the skeleton of a sperm whale. The museum also has interesting attractions. The most important is the bird's flight simulator, in which you can feel what it's like to be a bird attached to a harness. The part of the exhibition known as 'Friesland onder Water', or 'Friesland under water', in turn, allows you to see the bottom of the channel from the fish's perspective.
In addition to educational activities, the museum also conducts scientific research and expands its collection with further exhibits. The museum's seat is the building of a former orphanage. There is also a coffee shop in its area.
