Floriana is a city bordering Valletta and being part of its agglomeration. The long history has left numerous traces here in the form of historic buildings and well-preserved fortifications.
The city was founded in the first half of the 17th century, when a defensive line was being built around Valletta. At that time, the Florian Line was created to defend the capital against attack. Floriana's fortifications have survived in good condition to this day, and now they are adjacent to beautiful gardens open to the public, the Argotti Garden, the Sir Luigi Preziosi Gardens and the Herbert Ganado Gardens.
The greatest attraction of Floriana is its historic buildings. The central point of the city is the monumental baroque church of St. Publius with a two-tower façade with a columned portico. The church of Sarria, built on a circular plan, also has a lot of charm. The symbol of the city is the richly decorated Bomb Gate in the form of a triumphal arch, and the main walking place is the Mall promenade with squares, monuments and flower beds.
