Vigevano is a historic town, the expansion of which was most influenced by the Sforza family. Here you will find their palace with the famous covered gallery where you can walk around on horseback and the magnificent Piazza Ducale square.

From the mid-thirteenth century, the city was under the authority of Milan and the Sforza family ruling there. They built their castle here, which is now the most important monument in the city. The 15th century stronghold was rebuilt in the following centuries into a fashionable residence with Renaissance and Baroque elements.

Piazza Ducale is in the vicinity of the Palace. This is one of the most beautiful Renaissance squares in Italy and the biggest attraction in Vigevano. It is surrounded on three sides by arcades and the walls of the city palace decorated with paintings. The last frontage is occupied by the baroque facade of the cathedral, the interiors of which are covered with illusionist paintings. The cathedral treasury contains over 100 historic works of sacred art donated to the church by Francis II Sforza in the 16th century.
