Pomarance is a quiet Tuscan town nestled in the vineyards of the hills. It has a small Old Town with stone houses and narrow streets, and is surrounded by many cozy country guesthouses that also offer the opportunity to learn about the local cuisine.
In ancient times, there was an Etruscan settlement on the site of today's Pomarance. During the excavations carried out in the city, a dozen or so graves from those times were discovered, and the finds from them are now on display in the Archaeological Museum in Florence. In the Middle Ages there was a castle here, but it has not survived to our times. Located on the top of the hill, the Old Town is small and consists of stone houses standing tightly along cobbled streets. There are many restaurants and cafes here.
The picturesque surroundings are the biggest attraction of Pomaranka. The hills covered with vineyards and olive groves invite to walks. There are dirt roads leading through them, through which you can take walks with beautiful views. On many of the surrounding hills there are former farms turned into agritourism farms. They offer the possibility of peaceful relaxation, outdoor swimming pools and often their own food, from cheese and cold cuts to wine and olive oil.
