Camposanto Monumentale

A monumental gothic cemetery located within the UNESCO-listed Cathedral Square in Pisa. It is a rectangular building with a grassy courtyard creating cloisters with tall, glazed windows.

A dome was built over the eastern part of the building. Tombstones and sarcophagi are located in the cloisters. Many of them were made using Roman sarcophagi found during excavations. To this day, despite major damage from World War II, over 80 gravestones have survived.
