Montagnana is a historic city with some of the best-preserved medieval walls in Italy. They surround the historic city center with its castle and many palaces.
During the Middle Ages, Montagnana was a strategic defensive point in the region and therefore was surrounded by high defensive walls. They have survived to this day almost intact, although after the city was conquered by the Venetians, it lost its military significance. Next to the city walls, Montagnani's biggest attraction is the medieval Castle of San Zeno. It was connected to the defensive wall system and today remains one of the best examples of military architecture in this part of Italy. Its walls now house the Antonina Giacomelli City Museum.
There are also other interesting historical buildings within the city walls. One of the most beautiful is the Magnavin-Fioratti Palace, built in the Venetian Gothic style. The main meeting point, where there are also many restaurants and cafes, is Place de Victor Emmanuel. The surrounding tenement houses have nice arcades where you can hide in the heat.
