Piazza delle Erbe

The central square was the forum of the city's romanum during the Roman Empire. The north side of the square is occupied by the historic town hall, Torre dei Lamberti, Casa dei Giudici ("Hall of Judges") and frescoes of Mazzanti houses. On the west side you can admire the Baroque Palazzo Maffei decorated with statues of Greek gods. A white marble column stands in front of him, with the lion of Saint Mark, the symbol of the Republic of Venice.
