Massa is a city whose seaside district is the popular resort of Marina di Massa. It is also known for its marble quarries, valued by sculptors and architects all over the world.
The fame of the Massa marbles continues for over 2,000. years. Michelangelo made his sculpture of David. To this day, huge blocks of stone from the quarry are exported to construction sites and carving workshops all over the world. This field is commemorated by a sculpture in the Bad Kissingen Square made of marble blocks illuminated in the evening.
Built with old tenement houses and palaces, the center of Massa is located far from the sea and is concentrated around the restored Orange Square. It, too, is paved with marble slabs, and there are many restaurants and bars around.
Massa's tourist attractions are mainly concentrated in the Marina di Massa district. There are wide, sandy and well-developed beaches, numerous hotels, apartments, bars, clubs and restaurants, recreational equipment rentals, sports fields and a marina for tourist boats and yachts.
