Münstertal / Schwarzwald is a tourist mountain village in the Black Forest with an abbey founded in the 9th century and several interesting museums. The surroundings are perfect for active recreation due to the large number of hiking and biking trails, and the picturesque landscapes allow you to relax in the bosom of nature.
The beginnings of the village are related to the founding here in the 9th century by St. Trudbert's Abbey. For centuries, the village served as an auxiliary to the developing monastery, and today its buildings are the most important monument of the Münstertal / Black Forest and the surrounding area. The gothic church with a tower topped with a baroque dome and the 18th-century monastery buildings with a dome chapel are wonderfully embedded in the landscape, and the richly decorated interiors are eagerly visited by tourists.
There are also some interesting museums in the town. The most important of them are the Münstertal Museum, which shows the realities of life on mountain farms, the Münstertal Beekeeping Museum and the Mining Museum. It tells the story of silver mining in the Black Forest.
The beautiful scenery here is also one of the highlights of the Münstertal / Black Forest. They encourage hiking and, in winter, cross-country skiing. A popular destination for excursions is the Belchen Cross Summit. In winter, the Münstertal-Wieden ski lifts are in operation.
