+1 Attraction inside
Kintzheim Castle was built in the 13th century on the top of a hill 330 m above sea level. Currently, its ruins dominate the village of the same name, and the preserved buildings house the Sanctuary of Birds of Prey. Here you can watch free-flight demonstrations of birds such as eagles, falcons and vultures.
The construction of the fortress was commenced in the mid-thirteenth century by order of Emperor Frederick II Hohenstauf. In the following centuries, it was expanded with further fortifications and residential buildings. Kintzheim Castle was abandoned after the French Revolution in 1789.
