Beuron is a small town in the Upper Danube Nature Park. There is a historic abbey of St. Martin, consisting of a dozen or so buildings picturesquely situated above the town's buildings.
The town has existed since the 11th century and from the very beginning it was part of the monastic property. The Augustinian abbey was in its history under the protection of the most important aristocratic families in Germany, including the Hohenzollerns, who ensured its prosperity and the possibility of constant development.
The present appearance of the monastery is the result of the baroque reconstruction after the destruction of the Thirty Years' War. The complex consists of the parish church of St. Martin and the pilgrimage site of the Blessed Virgin Mary, as well as residential and farm buildings and a library. Some of them can be visited, others remain in the hands of the Order and are closed to outsiders.
The areas around Beuron are very attractive in terms of landscape. The Danube Valley and the Swabian Jura hills with numerous limestone rocks create a beautiful scenery for hiking.
