KŘIVOKLÁT tourist attractions

+1 attraction

Křivoklát is a small tourist destination, known primarily for its magnificent medieval castle, one of the most important residences in the Czech Republic. The picturesque landscape of the Křivoklátsko National Park stretches around the town.

The history of the village is closely linked with the Křivoklát Castle, which is now its greatest attraction. It was built in the 12th century on the site of a wooden stronghold, and expanded by Przemysł Ottokar II. In the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, the stronghold was one of the most important seats of monarchs in the territory of Bohemia and a popular base for hunting in the nearby forests.

Currently, the castle is open to the public. There is a museum with a collection of paintings and a hunting exhibition. You can also visit the castle chapel, library and knights' hall.

The chateau is beautifully integrated into the mountainous landscape of the Křivoklátsko National Park. Many hiking trails lead to particularly picturesque places in the surrounding forests. One of them is the Berounka River valley with valuable landscape and nature values.
