BENEŠOV tourist attractions

+3 attractions

Benešov is a city known primarily for the nearby Konopiste Castle, which belonged to Archduke Franz Ferdinand, murdered in 1914 in Sarajevo. There is also the Museum of Art and Design and a small but well-preserved old town.

Konopiste Castle is one of the best examples of Renaissance castles in the Czech Republic. At the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries it was in the hands of the Habsburgs and was the seat of the heir to the Austro-Hungarian throne, Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Currently, it is open to the public, and its interior houses a rich collection of furniture, art and artistic craftsmanship.

Apart from the chateau, Benešov's attractions include the surrounding chateau park with a rose garden and a large landscape park. It is a good place for a walk thanks to numerous footpaths.

In the town itself, around the square, you can see preserved and renovated houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. Another interesting place is the Museum of Art and Design, which presents the most outstanding figures of Czech design, graphics and photography of the 20th century.
