Braunau am Inn is a small historic town that gained a lot of publicity as the birthplace of Adolf Hitler. This troublesome heritage draws many tourists to it, who can also see its charming old town.
The city is located right on the border with Germany, on the former salt trail leading from Bavaria. It has medieval roots and has developed over the centuries primarily as a thriving commercial center. Among the attractions of Braunau am Inn are, above all, the historic buildings of the center, which include the market square, numerous houses from different eras, as well as old churches, St. Stephen, the Holy Spirit and Ranshofen.
The most famous place where all visitors to Braunau am Inn go is Hitler's Birthplace. Although the city does not commemorate it in a special way and is now intended for the police station, many tourists come to see it. In front of the house there is a stone from the quarries near the Mauthausen concentration camp, with the inscription "For peace, freedom and democracy - no more fascism, they remind millions of the dead".
