Solothurn is a historic city with a well-preserved Renaissance-Baroque Old Town. Its surroundings are perfect for off-road hiking and off-road cycling. Over 300 km of trails have been marked out for cyclists.

The city experienced its golden age from the mid-16th century to 1792. It was then the seat of the ambassadors of the French king. Thanks to this, in the local architecture you can find numerous influences of the French Renaissance and Baroque.

The most impressive building of the Old Town is the baroque cathedral of St. Ursus, the facade of which was founded by King Louis XIV. Another important monument is the Jesuit Church at the market square, which is considered one of the most beautiful baroque buildings in Switzerland. Tadeusz Kościuszko, who died in Solothurn, was buried within its walls in 1817.

The local museums are one of the attractions of Solothurn. The Museum of Nature has an excellent collection, and the Old Arsenal Museum houses exhibitions of weapons from around the world. The Art Museum collects works by artists from the heyday of the city, while the Enter Museum houses exhibitions devoted to the development of computer technology. There is also a small biographical museum in the house where Kościuszko died.
