Vitra Design Museum
Local name: Vitra Design Museum
It is a private design museum having one of the largest collections of modern furniture design in the world. His collection is dominated by furniture and interior furnishings which are the legacy of American designers Charles and Ray Earnes. The exhibition is complemented by the work of designers such as Nelson, Aalto, Panton, Rams, Thonet and others.
Although the exhibitions presented in the museum are focused around all styles and types of design since the beginning of the 19th century, the museum building itself is very modern and presents a deconstructivist style. It is also the first building in Europe designed by Frank O. Gehry. White plaster and titanium were used to make it.
The museum organizes workshops and lectures, runs an archive, a library and a conservation laboratory. It also allows visiting the nearby Vitra furniture factory.
