MEYRIN tourist attractions

Meyrin is a city known primarily as the seat of CERN, the European Center for Nuclear Research. One of the most powerful physics research devices today, the famous hadron collider, is located here.

Until the 1950s, Meyrin was a small, quiet, agricultural village. This situation has changed due to the decision to build the CERN European Nuclear Research Center. With its establishment, the town grew to include new housing estates and districts to which the employees of the institute moved. A connection has also been built with nearby Geneva, where many people working at CERN live.

The biggest attraction of Meyrin and CERN is the Large Hadron Collider, the largest particle accelerator in the world. Advanced research and experiments on space and the structure of matter are carried out here. The collider is partially open to the public. There is also the Microcosm exhibition on the premises of CERN.

The city has mostly new buildings, and the local attractions are mainly related to the combination of education and entertainment. You can visit, among others The VIvarium in Meyrin, which presents various species of amphibians and reptiles from around the world, as well as the Alpine Botanical Garden.
