Regional Natural Park of the Massif des Bauges
Local name: Parc naturel régional du Massif des Bauges
The Bauges Regional Natural Park was founded in 1995, covers the departments of Savoie and Haute-Savoie and in 2011 obtained the UNESCO Geopark status. In the park you can admire limestone cliffs, caves and lakes. Visitors can go hiking, horse riding, cycling or on a donkey, as well as winter and extreme sports including paragliding, cross-country skiing and fishing.
There are 1600 plant species, 150 farmed bird species and only 9 amphibian species in the park. spotted salamander, because few of them are adapted to life at heights.
It is also worth visiting the monuments located in the park, among others Tamié fort and abbey, Romanesque church Saint-Jean-Baptiste Cléry and Mont Saint-Michel, and try local specialties including Tome des Bauges cheeses, wines, honey and chocolates.
