Tvrdosin is a historic town in Orava, with one of the most valuable wooden monuments in Slovakia, the Church of All Saints, entered on the UNESCO list. There are thermal springs in the area, which are used in water parks.
The settlement in the place of today's city already existed in the 9th century and was an important stop on the trade route leading to Hungary. Later, the manufacture of linen and pots developed here. The town's buildings in the center have survived to this day, and the most important monument is the wooden church of All Saints, built at the end of the 15th century.
The most important attractions of Twardoszyn are located on its outskirts. These are two water parks that use the local thermal waters. Oravice Thermal Baths and Meander Therms offer tourists the possibility of taking advantage of indoor and outdoor pools, water attractions and good spa facilities.
The vicinity of Twardoszyn is also a good place for active tourism. There are numerous hiking and biking trails, and cross-country skiing trails in winter. There is also Orava Lake, one of the largest artificial reservoirs in Slovakia.
