Kasprowy Wierch - 1982 m

Local name: Kasprowy Wierch - 1982 m n.p.m.

Kasprowy Wierch is a peak of 1,987 m above sea level, located in the Western Tatras, on the Polish-Slovakian border. It belongs to the most often visited Tatra peaks, mainly due to the funicular leading to the peak. Kasprowy Wierch is a very good vantage point for the West and High Tatras.

The summit is made of crystalline rocks and together with its surroundings is a geological "crystalline island" among the sedimentary rocks that build the Western Tatras. It has a relatively mild shape, steep mountainsides fall only to the Kasprowa Valley.

The paths in the area of Kasprowy Wierch were known to the first Tatra tourists in the mid-19th century. The development of skiing in this area is dated back to 1910. Currently, on the slopes of the mountain there are two ski lifts, in the Goryczkowy and Gąsienicowy Cirque. Below the summit there are also a meteorological observatory, the upper station of the funicular, a restaurant, and a souvenir shop.
