Great Cold Valley
Local name: Veľká Studená dolina
Staroleśna Valley (Slovak: Velka studena dolina) belongs to the largest Tatra valley in Slovakia. Open to the south-east, it belongs to the Cold Water Valley system. On its area there are 27 mountain glacial ponds, of which the largest, Zmarzły Staroleśny Pond is located at an altitude of 2057 m above sea level
Staroleśna Valley is 7 kilometers long. Its lower parts are overgrown with forest, while the upper floor is occupied by halls and the Alpine floor. There are 3 tourist hostels in the Valley: Zbójnickie Hostel in the upper part and Rainerova cottage and Bilka hostel at its outlet. Trails also lead here to Rohatka and Czerwony Bench.
The surroundings of Staroleśna Valley are very picturesque. In its vicinity are Little Ice Peak, Jaworowy and Świstowy Peak, as well as P intermediatena Grań and Ciemniasta Turnia.
