Rysy is the highest Polish peak. On the Polish side, the highest peak has a height of 2499 m above sea level, while in the whole massif, already in Slovakia it is a summit with a height of 2503 m above sea level. The peak is open to both Polish and Slovakian sides. It is led by the red trail from the hostel at Morskie Oko and the Slovak trail from Popradzki Staw.
Rysy are in the High Tatras. A public tourist trail located the highest in the Tatras leads to them. On the Polish side it is insured with chains. On the Slovak side, above the Cottage under Rysy, metal steps were installed in 2016 to facilitate climbing to the top. Ascending the summit requires good physical condition and possession of mountain footwear.
The name Rysy comes from deep gullies located on the slopes of the massif. It was used by highlanders from the beginning of the 19th century. Eduard Blasy made the first documented ascent to the summit in 1840. In Rysy, you can cross the Polish-Slovak border from June 15 to November 1. In the winter season the trail on the Slovak side is closed. The summit offers a magnificent panorama covering the whole of the Tatras, and in good weather reaching up to 200 km.
