Mickiewicz Waterfalls is a group of waterfalls on the Roztoka stream, falling from the knickpoint between the Roztoka and Białka Valleys. The group consists of Wyżni, Pośredni and Niżni Waterfalls, and also smaller cascades. The red trail and frequently crowded road of Oswald Balzer, which leads to Morskie Oko, can be found nearby. The green trail which leads to Valley of Five Polish Ponds is also accessible from there. Only Pośredni Waterfall is well seen from the tourist trail. Name of the roaring waterfalls commemorates the bringing of Adam Mickiewicz's ashes to Wawel in 1890.
The first known tourist who was delighted by the thundering waterfalls and contributed to their popularization was painter, photographer, and lover of the Tatra Mountains - Walery Eljasz-Radzikowski. Thanks to the efforts of Tatra Society, the bridge allowing tourists to admire this unique work of nature was constructed. Stefan Żeromski wrote about the picturesque waterfalls, while Wojciech Gerson immortalized them on the canvas.Less
