Oppenau is a small historic town in the Black Forest, surrounded by forested hills. There are ruins of an 11th-century monastery and a well-preserved Old Town.
The beginnings of the village date back to the 12th century, but before it was founded, a Premonstratensian monastery already existed in the area. It was demolished at the beginning of the 19th century and today the ruins of the Monastery of All Saints are Oppenau's greatest attraction. Within them, apart from the remains of the church walls and buildings, there is a baroque garden of All Saints.
In the vicinity of the monastery, there is a picturesque waterfall of All Saints, which is a popular destination for walks. The water descends in a cascade of several stages from a height of 66 m. Other interesting places that can be reached via hiking trails are the Steinmäuerle viewing platform, the Studentenfelsen viewing point and the Buchkopf Oppenau-Maisach tower.
The medieval urban layout has been preserved in the center of Oppenau. There are many tenement houses with nice, historic facades, a small market and the remains of old fortifications with gates.
