Bad Buchau is a small thermal spa and holiday village in the foothills of the Alps. In its vicinity is the Federsee Lake, which is popular with nature lovers with birds.
The town developed from the 8th century at the Buchau monastery. It was one of the most important monasteries in the region and was under the care of the Emperors of the Reich. It was only after the secularization of orders at the beginning of the 19th century that the city developed as a separate center.
The main monument of Bad Buchau is the monastery complex with an early Gothic church and residential buildings dating mainly from the 17th century.
At the beginning of the 20th century, thermal springs were discovered in Bad Buchau. They have been used since the post-war period in spa treatment and recreation. There are several bathing areas as well as spa and wellness centers in the town.
