Hřensko is a tourist town sometimes called the gates of Bohemian Switzerland. It lies in the picturesque canyon of the Kamienice River and is a convenient starting point to explore the surrounding gorges, the Elbe gorge, and nearby Dresden.
The location of Hřensk makes it one of the most picturesque villages in the Czech Republic. Although it lies at an altitude of only 115 m above sea level, the surroundings are unique here. Vertical rock walls rise above the wooden, modeled on Swiss and Alpine buildings. Many houses are in natural rock niches, others look attached to stone. Some pensions come from the second half of the 19th century, from the time when Hřensko became a popular holiday destination.
Tourists are attracted to Hřensk above all around. Czech or Bohemian-Saxon Switzerland is a region with a diverse and unusual landscape. Many hiking trails leave the village, which allow you to explore this area. The most famous place is the Pravčická Gate, the largest natural rock gate in Europe. Equally attractive are the surrounding gorges, which are traversed by narrow paths and when rafting by boat. The most famous are Dziki Gorge and Gorge Edmund.
A little further is the gorge of the Elbe River, as well as two interesting castles Konigstein and Falkenštejn. Hřensko is also a good base for trips to Dresden, about 50 km away.
