Baška is a holiday resort on the island of Krk. It is known for its beaches, of which the award-winning Vela plaža is considered to be the most beautiful and for one of the most important Croatian cultural monuments Plate from Baška from around 1100.
The village is located in a small bay. Its buildings extend on the slopes of the hills and at their foot. Stone buildings, sometimes compared to Moroccan ones, are beautifully integrated into the surrounding landscape. Above the center stands the Hill of St. John with the church, from which there is a lovely view of the coast. The city is also worth seeing the baroque church of St. Trinity.
In the neighboring town of Jurandvor there is an early medieval church of St. Lucia. It contains a copy of one of the most important monuments of Croatian culture, the Plate of Baška. It is a Glagolitic plaque, which is one of the earliest literary monuments in the country. To commemorate this find in Baška, the Glagolitic Paths were marked out with 35 sculptures referring to the inscription.
However, what attracts tourists to the village are the local beaches. They stretch for several kilometers, and the most famous is the stony Vela plaza, one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. You can go diving, water skiing or surfing. The surrounding hills are crossed by numerous walking and cycling routes, and climbing is possible on the rocks.
Baška offers tourists very good accommodation conditions, especially in guesthouses and holiday apartments. Along the promenade there are numerous restaurants and bars, and in the evenings here nightlife flourishes in clubs and discos.
