Theater Park

Local name: Kazališni park

Theater Park is a garden arrangement in the Classicist-Art Nouveau style, stylistically adapted to the surrounding architecture - the National Theater, the Modello Palace and the classical building of the city market. The park was created in 1875. Its architecture underwent many changes until the beginning of the 21st century, when it was carefully restored and rearranged - the location of plantings and monuments was changed.

The most important element of the park's small architecture is the statue of Ivan Zajc (1832-1914), a Croatian opera composer named after the National Theater in Rijeka. The park also has a fountain designed by Dušan Džamonja (1928-2009), one of the most famous Croatian sculptors of the 20th century.

An interesting feature of the park's vegetation are rose bushes. In line with the nature of the place, nine varieties have been planted here, whose names commemorate the most famous composers and opera performers (Händel, Maria Callas) or refer to musical terminology (Concerto, Prima Ballerina).
