The Učka Nature Park is a 160 km2 nature park, comprising the Vojak Mountain (1,401 m) and part of the Ćićarija Mountain Range. The park was established in 1999 to protect extremely lush vegetation and many rare animal species. Učka Nature Park has numerous walking routes, educational paths, and its central peak provides a unique view of Rijeka, Kvarner, Istria and Platak.
At the top of Mount Vojak there is a stone tower. It was built in 1911 by mountaineers and nature lovers. During World War I, it served as an observation tower for the Austro-Hungarian army. Over the years it has become a symbol of the park. After thorough modernization, from 2014 there is a tourist information office, a souvenir shop and a viewing terrace, where strong binoculars and telescopes have been installed.
The park offers tourists workshops, guided tours or independent walking on numerous marked trails. It is worth going to the Poklon valley, which for centuries pilgrims from Istria wandered to the church of St. Mary in Trsat. A stone cross was erected to commemorate this tradition.
