Northern Velebit National Park
Local name: Nacionalni park Sjeverni Velebit
Nacionalni park Sjeverni Velebit, or Northern Welebit National Park, is the youngest, founded in 1999, national park of Croatia. Its area is 109 km2. It was established in the landscape park, which covers the largest Croatian mountain range Velebit. You can move around the park along educational paths and numerous walking and cycling routes.
One of the park's biggest attractions is the Premužicia Road - a stone lined 16 km tourist trail that leads through the most interesting places of the park. It was named after its designer and builder, forestry engineer, Ante Premužica.
Other places worth visiting in the park are, above all, the Zavižan peak (1676 m above sea level), where the highest located meteorological station in Croatia is located. A botanical garden was established a short distance from the station, where you can see about 300 species of plants from the Velebit area.
