Stans lies in Tyrol, at the foot of the Karwendel massif. Its surroundings are a well-known ski area, with kilometers of cross-country trails and several dozen ski slopes. The biggest attraction of the area is the Wolfsklamm Gorge, through which runs the trail leading to the monastery of St. Georgenberg.
The village is located in a vast valley surrounded by mountain peaks reaching over 2500 m above sea level. The Karwendel massif and other surrounding mountains are protected by Austria's largest landscape park, through which hundreds of kilometers of hiking and cycling routes have been led. Stans are particularly popular among mountain bikers, who can find routes of varying difficulty, from walking to advanced, requiring extensive experience.
The biggest tourist attraction of Stans is one of the most beautiful alpine gorges, Wolfsklamm, which starts here. It leads through a trail of platforms, stairs and ladders, the end of which is in the monastery of St. Georgenberg.
The area also has several other interesting sights. These include the Renaissance Tratzberg castle, where original decorations and furnishings have been preserved, as well as the Romanesque chapel of St. Lawrence.
In winter, Stans and surroundings are a real paradise for skiers. Cross-country skiing enthusiasts come here especially for them, both for classic and skating.
