Alpenzoo in Innsbruck was founded in 1962 and is one of the highest zoos in Europe. It is located at an altitude of 750 meters above sea level and its area is over 4 hectares. Around 200 Alpine species can be seen in the ZOO. An interesting fact is the world's largest cold water aquarium.
Alpenzoo is currently the only zoo in the world that focuses exclusively on animals living in the Alps.
Despite the small size of the zoo, it is worth reserving more time for visiting it, because due to its mountainous nature, hasty hiking can be tiring.
Before planning a trip to Aplenzoo, it is worth getting acquainted with the hibernation dates and times of birth of young in different species in order to best choose the time of visit. All information is available on the official Alpenzoo website.
