Pertisau is a small holiday and spa town on Tyrol's largest lake, Achensee. Since the beginning of the 20th century, rock oil has been obtained here, which is used in the production of cosmetics and in local spa centers.

The beautiful location connecting mountains and water, great accommodation and resort traditions dating back to the 15th century are the main advantages of Pertisau. From the medieval times, members of the Habsburg dynasty rested on the lake, and the main monuments of the town include the holiday cottage of Emperor Maximilian I. From the nineteenth century, the development of the resort and the increase in tourist traffic, and in 1908, the exploitation of rock oil from shale began in Pertisau. It has found wide application in health tourism. Today, its beneficial properties can be used in numerous spa and wellness centers. On the other hand, the Rock Oil Museum presents the history and methods of obtaining and using it.

Visiting Pertisau is primarily about contact with nature and beautiful views. The city is surrounded by the Karwendel Alpine Landscape Park, which is full of picturesque hiking trails. The higher routes can be reached both on foot and with the Karwendel cable car. It allows you to save time and energy on the approach.

Lake Achensee is a major attraction in Pertisau. The town has the largest ferry dock on the lake from which you can go on a cruise on Lake Achensee. There are also water sports equipment rentals, a small beach and the Seepromenade. For tourists coming to Pertisau in summer, there is also a golf course, bicycle routes, tennis courts and much more. In winter, a small ski center with several kilometers of ski slopes is open here, and cross-country skiing trails are also maintained.
