Spiez is a small, picturesque town situated on the shores of Lake Thun. They are surrounded by the Bernese Alps and the surrounding hills are covered with vineyards.
The city has medieval roots and its most important monument and attraction is the Spiez Castle. It rises above the port, dominated by its massive stone tower. The interiors of the castle have a baroque interior and are open to the public. Right next to it, you can see the castle church in Spiez, as well as many historic houses, mainly from the 17th and 18th centuries.
Due to its location between a lake and mountains, Spiez is a great base for people who like active tourism. On the lake you can go canoeing, sailboats and boats, or go on a boat trip. On the other hand, there are many hiking and cycling routes in the mountains, thanks to which you can get to know the area.
The hills around Spiez are covered with vineyards. Many of them conduct wine shows and tastings. There are also hiking and biking trails between the vineyards. In Spiez there is the Municipal and Viticulture Museum, where you can learn about the wine-growing traditions of the region.
