Sphinx observation deck
Local name: Sphinx Aussichtsplattform
The Sphinx astronomical observatory is located above the city of Jungfraujoch in Switzerland. Its name comes from the rocky peak of the Sphinx on which it is located. It is located at an altitude of 3571 m above sea level and is one of the highest observatories in the world. This place is also a viewpoint on the Alps.
This observatory includes two laboratories and two terraces for scientific experiments, a solar spectrometer, a meteorological observation station, a workshop, and astronomical and meteorological domes. The astronomical dome is equipped with a 76 cm telescope with Cassegrain and Coudé luminaire.
The observatory was founded in 1931 by Adolf Guyer-Zeller. Today, it participates in many research programs, including in the LIDAR experiment. It also houses a library, kitchen, dining room and living rooms for the needs of scientists. The observatory can be seen in many films, including at the Grand Budapest Hotel.
