Münchenstein is a city that boasts a beautiful botanical garden. A lot of old residential architecture has also been preserved here, and the whole is complemented by interesting museums.
The city was founded in the Middle Ages and from the very beginning it was strongly associated with the nearby Basel. In the 18th and 19th centuries, many wealthy Basel families built their villas and holiday homes here. One of the larger estates in the area is the Bruckgut mansion surrounded by gardens.
There are also some interesting museums in the city. the most important is the Carriage Museum, part of the Basel Historical Museum. There is also the Brüglingen Mill Museum in a building from the turn of the 15th and 16th centuries, as well as the Electricity Museum and the Schaulager Art Center.
The main attraction of Münchenstein is the extensive Merian Gardens. It is a botanical garden that showcases plants from all over the world. On its premises there are, among others Orangery. The place for family entertainment is the Park im Grünen, which consists of a nature culture park and a playground for children.
