Kamnik is a town situated at the foot of the Kamnik Alps and a great base for people who like climbing and mountain hiking. It is also one of the oldest cities in Slovenia and the Medieval Days festival is held here every year.
In the center of Kamnik, a lot of historic buildings have been preserved, including the so-called Little Castle and the Franciscan monastery from the 17th century. There are also nice tenement houses from different eras, and on the outskirts of Kamnik, you can visit the Castle Wybrzeże. Next to the castle, there is a valuable complex of wooden buildings, that is the granaries of the Czekice Castle.
The surroundings of Kamnik are exceptionally picturesque and famous for their beautiful views. Kamnik Alps and their rocky peaks are a beautiful dominant of the views. Among the attractions of the area around Kamnik are, among others Orglice waterfall. A great place for a walk and contact with nature is the Volčji Potok arboretum run by the University of Ljubljana. Its pride is the groves of rhododendrons that bloom in early summer.
