The arboretum is a botanical park covering eighty-five hectares, where about 3.5 thousand different shrubs and trees from around the world grow. It is famous for the annual spring flower exhibitions organized for twenty years, including various types of daffodils and tulips. Exhibitions of rhododendrons and more than a thousand species of roses are famous and equally spectacular.
In addition to the annual flower exhibitions, cultural outdoor events are organized in the park. You can also admire the permanent exhibition of the sculptures of the famous Slovenian architect Janez Bolijka and greenhouses with unusual specimens of cacti, orchids and insects in the form of exotic butterflies.
The arboretum was established in 1952, was managed by the Faculty of Agriculture in Ljubljana as a university, and then in the years 1965–1999 after the dissolution of cooperation with the Faculty of Agriculture, the Arboretum began to function as an independent entity. Since 1999, it has been the status of cultural and natural heritage of Slovenia.
