Modica is a town situated on a hill and its slopes a few kilometers off the coast of Sicily. It is famous for its historic, mainly baroque buildings and beautiful views of the surrounding area.

The city is divided into two parts. The higher and the older one covers the top of the hill, and at its foot and in the lower parts of the slopes there are districts built from the 18th century. Each of these parts has its own cathedral. In the upper town rises the baroque Cathedral of San Giorgio considered the main attraction of Modica. The narrow streets around the cathedral are lost among tenement houses and city palaces standing close to each other. The medieval castle Castello dei Conti with a clock tower dominates the entire building. From the highest part of the city, from the Pizzo viewpoint, you can admire the panorama of Modica and its surroundings.

The lower town is centered around the 18th-century St. Peter. There is a lush social life here, there is no shortage of restaurants and cafes. The main street, Corso Umberto I, also has many handicraft shops and boutiques.

Although Modica is not located by the sea, it is not far from the beautiful beaches. Marina di Modica is situated by the sea with sandy beaches and many water sports possibilities. This makes it possible to combine relaxation with visiting beautiful monuments.
