Alpirsbach is a historic town in the Black Forest with a historic Benedictine abbey with 1,000 years of tradition. The location among forested hills is conducive to active tourism.
The Alpirsbach Monastery was founded at the end of the 11th century, and the settlement that developed around it until the 19th century had no municipal rights. A change was brought about only by the dissolution of orders from the beginning of the 19th century and the economic changes it brought about. The monastery buildings are still the highlight of Alpirsbach to this day. They consist of the late Romanesque monastery church of St. Nicholas and residential and farm buildings. Currently, the Museum of the Alpirsbach Monastery is located there.
In the center of the town, you can see historic half-timbered buildings. They create the atmosphere of the town and add to its charm. There are two museums here, the Museum of Urban History and the Museum of Printing. A very popular attraction among tourists is the Brewery Museum located in the former monastery brewery Alpirsbacher Klosterbräu, which still produces livas according to traditional recipes.
