Chamonix is not large, along with the neighboring towns the municipality has a permanent population of around 10,000. people. Instead, it has a well-developed accommodation base, which provides facilities for crowds of skiers coming here. The local ski resorts have downhill, freeride, snowboard, snowparks and cross-country ski runs of varying difficulty. The first Winter Olympic Games in 1924 also took place in Chamonix.
The attractions of the village are associated primarily with mountains and active recreation. Towering over the valley, the Mont Blanc peak is one of the most popular in the world for mountaineers and alpine tourists. Currently, thanks to marked routes and safeguards, the mountain is largely accessible to commercial entrances and people who do not have much climbing experience. There are also many ski lifts and funiculars leading to the scenic peaks from which you can admire Mont Blanc. The most famous are the cable car to the Aiguille du Midi (3842 m) and Le Brevent (2525 m), on top of which there is a restaurant with a panoramic terrace.
