MIDDELFART tourist attractions

+15 attractions

Middelfart is a town on the island of Funen, with a historic and modern crossing to Jutland. For this reason, this place has played an important role in trade contacts in Denmark for centuries. There are two bridges here as well as some interesting museums.

The history of the city dates back to the 9th century, when there was a Viking settlement here. Later, a trade center developed here, but as a result of the wars with Sweden after the 16th century, it did not play such a large role. Middelfart's oldest monument is the late Gothic Church of St. Nicholas. There is also the 16th-century House of Henner Friiser, built from a half-timbered wall. It is now used by the local museum.

Middelfart's attractions also include the Museum of Clay Pottery in Denmark and the Psychiatric Collection. The ideal places for walks are the Hindsgavl Deer Park and the Sophiæodde coast with replicas of the cannons that guarded the Little Belt Strait in the past. In summer, the Søbadet Bathing Center with a beach and constant care of lifeguards operates by the sea.

Due to the strategic location of Middelfart in the place of a convenient crossing, from the Middle Ages there was a small port there. A bridge was also built later. Currently, there are two bridges, an old and a new one. The new rope bridge also has a footbridge where you can go on a Walk on the Lillebælt Bridge with a guide telling you about its construction.
