Both boulders with engraved inscriptions on them in the runic alphabet have been inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The elder was erected around 955 by King Gorm the Elder. It has the oldest preserved entry of the word Denmark. The inscription on the second stone dates from 966 and was made on the order of Harald Sinozębego.
