Bogense is a popular tourist destination in Funen. A lot of picturesque, low-rise buildings from the 17th and 18th centuries have been preserved here, and the city is known for its large marina and nearby beaches.

The history of Bogense begins in the 13th century. A market town was established here, which developed rapidly. In the second half of the 16th century, its buildings were destroyed by fire. Only the Romanesque-Gothic church of St. Nicholas and the Erik Menveds Kro inn. The oldest part of the city, Toevet Bogense, is built up with low, tiled houses standing on cobbled streets. There are also many frame buildings here.

One of the highlights of Bogense is the Manneken Pis, a copy of the famous Brussels sculpture standing in the main square. It was donated to the city by one of the local townspeople and, like the Brussels original, is dressed in different outfits depending on the occasion.

Most tourists visit Bogense in summer. There is a sandy beach here. There are also tidal islets and the Gyldensteen Strand spit in the area where many water birds live. You can watch them from the Gyldensteen Strand Dæmningsminde viewpoint. The Bogense marina, built by the port in the mid-twentieth century, is also very popular. Boats from all over Europe land here in summer.
