Orebić is a resort town on the Peljesac peninsula. It is famous for its sandy beach, wine production and a quiet, slightly lazy atmosphere that allows for an idyllic rest.
The village is situated on the site of a castle belonging to the Orebić family. Its greatest period of development was in the 16th and 17th centuries, when it belonged to the Venetian Republic. It was then a seafarers' city, and to this day, not only boats belonging to tourists, but also fishing boats and small cruise ships whose owners offer cruises along the coast, moor in the local port. The Maritime Museum in Orebić reminds about maritime traditions.
What attracts tourists to Orebić is its main attraction, the sandy Trstenica beach, which is surrounded from the land by a grove. People who prefer a more intimate place can choose the Skvar Beach with numerous rocks. There is also a diving and windsurfing center in Orebić.
The town has a nice old buildings, mainly from the 16th and 17th centuries, with the Court's Palace, the Rector's Palace and the Captain's House. A valuable monument is the Gothic Franciscan monastery from the 15th century located on the top of the Sveti Ilija hill. The mountain is a popular destination for excursions and a viewpoint over the surrounding area.
