Burgh House & Hampstead Museum

Burgh House & Hampstead Museum is a museum located in the Hampstead district and just dedicated to it. The collection was created by local historians Christopher and Diana Wade in 1979. It has over 3,000 paintings, photographs, objects and documents related to the history and development of Hampstead.

The collections include works by Donald Towner, Dorothy Bohm, Fred Cook and Duncan Grant. The museum owns the largest collection of works by Helen Allingham, watercolors and illustrators. The exhibition also includes many items belonging to the inhabitants of Hampstead, such as a Victorian doll, skis, gas mask from World War II, medals and a penguin figurine from the book store on Hampstead High Street (currently Penguin Books is a large British publishing house).

The Burgh House building dates from 1704 and was one of the first such large houses in Hampstead. In addition to the museum, there are also galleries where temporary exhibitions and a café are organized.
