London Central Mosque
The London Central Mosque, or Central / Main Mosque in London, is located in the west of Regents Park. Is the seat of the Islamic Culture Center. It was built in 1977 in the area that the Muslim community received from the British government in exchange for the land in Cairo, on which the Anglican cathedral was built. The total construction cost was £ 6.5 million.
The mosque's design was selected through an international competition, which was won by Sir Frederick Gibberd. A characteristic element of the building is the golden dome, on the top of which there is a crescent - a symbol of Islam. The whole complex is divided into two parts. The main building consists of two prayer rooms and a mineral. The main hall can seat 5,000 faithful. Additional places for prayer for women are located on the balcony. The second part is the three-story wings of the building, which contain administrative rooms, a library, and a cafe.
