Reichenbach im Kandertal is a holiday village in the Alps on the edge of the UNESCO-protected Jungfrau-Aletsch region. It is surrounded by peaks accessible by hiking and climbing routes as well as vast, picturesque valleys.
The village has traditional alpine architecture with wooden houses with sloping roofs. The best examples of this are the inn Gasthof Bären and the house of the Notar-Sieber. In Reichenbach im Kandertal, there are also the ruins of Mülenen Castle, which was built at the narrowest point of the valley, which made it possible to control the trade route that ran there.
The main attractions of Reichenbach im Kandertal are associated with the local mountain landscapes and the possibility of active tourism. The Nisen peak, 2362 m above sea level, towers over the village. It can be reached by numerous hiking trails and one of the longest funiculars in Switzerland. The Niesen funicular was built at the end of the 19th century and still allows you to quickly get to the Nisen observation deck.
In summer, there are around 250 km of hiking trails around Reichenbach im Kandertal, from easy routes in the valleys even accessible to children, to demanding climbing and glacier routes. There are also bicycle routes, and paragliding flights are an attraction for people with strong nerves. In winter, there is a small ski station with easy runs, perfect for children and beginners.
